5 days in small island called Malta

Do you want to experience life on the island, where everybody speaks English and it is not so expensive? Then come to Malta.

This trip was one of the best ones for me and I will tell you why. It was totally unplanned for me. My friend called me and told me that she has a friend living and working in Malta. She wanted me to go there to explore the island and visit her friend with her. I am always excited about travelling and I almost never say no to this. We bought the tickets and it was arranged, just like this within 2 hours. From my experience, I can tell you that these unexpected things are very good in the end.

As always I found flight tickets on Kiwi.com. I like the webpage because it is easy to search and see all the options. We bought tickets only for 5 days and 4 nights. The company we travelled with was a low-cost company named WizzAir.

But first, let me briefly introduce Malta. It is a small island in the Mediterranean Sea. It is an independent country, Republic of Malta, not part of Italy or another country as many people think. In the past, it uses to be a colony of England and you can still see some proofs of that. For example, the official language is English and they drive on the left side of the road. Besides English, they have also a second official language and it is Maltese. The country is a member of the European Union and it is why the currency is Euro.

Day 1

We arrived in the morning so we had all day to explore. After a long night at the airport, we were tired so we decided to go to the beach. Around the island, we travel by bus all the time. There are many types of bus card you can buy. Unfortunately, this day was cloudy with an overcast of rain so when we entered the bus with big inflatable pineapple for relaxing in the water the driver looked at us with the face of not understanding. We went to a city beach. It was pretty but small so it was full of people. It was in Valletta and the name is Balluta Bay.

We were lucky because that day we came there was a concert for free. The most know names from the list of the ones that performed at the concert were Rita Ora and Martin Garrix. And It was for free! Can you imagine?! We had to go!

Day 2

The next day we had planned many things to see so we had to wake up early. It was a nice sunny day so firstly we went to the beach. Maybe it is too much beach time for somebody but I love the wind and the noise of the sea. This time we looked for a bigger beach with fewer people. With fewer people was a problem because Malta became a popular destination for tourists and also for students to learn English here. But we found a bigger beach that the day before. Name of the beach is Ghadira - Mellieha beach.

After relaxing and getting some energy from the sea we went to discover the island. Firstly we wanted to see Mdina. If you are a big fan of the Game of Thrones you should definitely come here. It is the place where some important scenes from the series were shot. I felt so good walking in these old aisles, listening bells from the cathedral and enjoying the beautiful view of the city.

I have to recommend you to go to Fontanella for the best cakes!

Next thing we wanted to see was sunset at Dingli Cliffs. It is about 15 minutes by bus away from Mdina and it is something on the "must see" list. We just sat there and quietly watched the sun going down to the sea. It was a magical moment when you are thankful you can be part of this.

Day 3

Blue Lagoon Comino is one of the most known places in Malta. We had to go to see it. There is a ferry you have to go to this lagoon. It costs 10 euros return ticket. They show you also some cliffs around the island. Blue Lagoon is located in a small island of Malta, island Comino. When we came there we were amazed. The crystal water, the cliffs, and sun create a place of paradise. When you come there are many people selling you a sunbed for a high price. If you continue walking you can find a space on the cliffs and stay there. We bought a drink in pineapple that is very popular from this place (costs 10 euros).
All of this sounds good, doesn´t it? But still, in the end, we were really disappointed in this place. Why? Because of many people. Each hour came other ferries with more and more people. It was so bad. There are just a few people you can enter the water because of the cliffs and we had to wait in the line to go swimming.
I would recommend you to go for about two hours to see but not more.

In the evening we went to Valletta to have a walk and have a dinner. I can tell you that Valletta surprised me. I loved the city. We walked on the streets and listened to a man singing. I recommend you to try local ice cream in the form of a rose.

Day 4

Day 4 we were in the mood of relaxing and friends. The morning we spent again on the beach. This time in Valletta. Then we had a lunch. In the afternoon we met some friends we got to know during our stay in Malta and we had some cocktails. It was a girls night out. Paceville is a large street with bars and clubs. You can find there many types of music to dance on.

Day 5

The last day. Our flight was in the morning and we had everything well planned. But. I don´t know if you know about the reputation of the buses in Malta. Well, they are often late or sometimes never come. We had to go to Valletta and take a taxi because our bus just did not come. If you want to travel around Malta I suggest you rent a car. It is not expensive and if you experience once this bad system of buses you will understand.

I loved Malta! It is a good place for vacation and experiences the island life. The only thing I hate was the mass of tourists. Malta is a small island so it is obvious that it will be full of people. I guess it is better to travel to Malta out of the season.
