MILAN, The Fashion Capital of the World

I’ve always wanted to go on an unplanned trip. Just to be spontaneous, buy a plane ticket and go. That week I did it! I was sitting at the table and I was just searching for a flight (I do it almost every day, even though I know I won’t go anywhere, I like to search where I could go – is that strange? Maybe.).
I found it. I found a cheap flight to Milan. I have a friend that lives in Milan and she always calls me and asks me to visit her. So I bought the tickets and went to visit her without any plans. Thanks to her I had an amazing time!

Do you know Milan? For those who don’t know Milan, you can find it in the north of Italy. It is the capital of the Lombardy region. After Rome, it is the most populous city in Italy. It is a global city.

But Milan is known for so much more than that. I know this city is a part of a fashion trio of cities (New York, Paris, and Milan), tasty food and cute Italian accents. Around Milan are mountains so when you are landing just have a look from the plane window because it is an unforgettable view.

How can you find the cheapest flights to this beautiful city? In Europe, the best way to get to Milan is to use a low-cost flight company like Wizz Air or Ryanair. These companies don’t have flights directly to Milan airport, but to Bergamo. Bergamo is a city near Milan so when you come to the airport you take a bus to Milan. It takes about one hour to get to Milan Central Station. Don’t worry about finding a bus. When you come out of the airport there are many busses but not all of them are going to Milan, so you have to ask. One way costs 5 euros and ticket with return costs 9 euros. It is better to buy the return ticket because when I was coming back to Bergamo from Milan they charged people 10 euros. The only thing you have to look for when you have a return ticket is that you have to go with the same company back (there are many companies that go from Bergamo to Milan). The best one is Terravison. You can also buy tickets on the Internet, but you have to choose the time beforehand. If you buy on the spot they give you a ticket with open time.  The bus leaves every hour.

Central station
It is a station of buses and trains. You come exactly to Central Station from Bergamo and you will also be leaving from here. They have many shops here, so while you are waiting for the bus you can go shopping. It’s almost in the centre. Outside is a small park with a square where you can relax for a while.

Corso Como
It is a modern part of the city with many shops and skyscrapers. You can just walk around and feel the atmosphere of new Italy.
The day we went to this place was a grand opening of the first shop of Chiarra Ferragni – the most famous Italian blogger. We had the pleasure of being interviewed by Vice Italy.

Duomo (Duomo di Milano)
Duomo is on the top of the “must-see” list in Milan. It is in the centre of Milan on the metro stop named Duomo. It is a cathedral dedicated to St Mary of the Nativity. You can go up to the roof and have an amazing view of the city. They charge you 9 euro and if you are a student and show them your student ID it is less. They also offer to visit the cathedral and more. In front of this gothic cathedral is a square. You can take a photo in front of the Duomo with the known Italian pigeons. Just be careful because there are many hustlers that put corn in your hand and let the pigeons sit on your hands and expect money for it. You have to haggle. Very famous is also the Duomo terrace. It is located in the building in front of Duomo and you can have dinner with an amazing view. But the food and drinks are really expensive there.

Location: Via Carlo Maria, Martiny 1, Milan

Gallery Victor Emanuel II (Galleria Vittorio Emanuele II)
If you know Milan because of the fashion, you will for sure know of the Gallery full of the shops like Louis Vuitton, Channel, Prada, Armani and more. It is located next to Duomo, so it is the right place to go after or before visiting the cathedral.  It is one of the oldest shopping malls. It is named by the first king of the Kingdom of Italy and built in the 19th century. On the floor in the middle of the Gallery is a picture of a bull and a small hole. You put your feet in the hole and spin three times for luck!
Gallery Victor Emanuel is not the only place to shop. In Milan, you can also find many other shops that are cheaper.

Location: Via Carlo Maria, Martiny 1, Milan

These are the most famous places that you can see in Milan, but you can see more. You should also visit the Castillo Sforzesco, it is not far from Duomo so you can walk there. There is also a park located there where you can relax after a long day of exploring this Italian city. Next in line is Navigli, if you want to go out at night this is definitely the right place to go. There are many bars and restaurants around, and this part of Milan lives more at night than during the day. Also for football fans, there is a little slice of paradise. Stadium of AC Milan – San Siro.

Metro in Milan is simple. You can use it to go everywhere. One way costs about 1,50 euros so if you are planning to travel more than one way by metro then it's better to buy the ticket for 24 hours per 4,50 euros. Taxis are also an option for travelling in Milan but it costs more obviously.

Italy is known for tasty food and people enjoying their life. Make sure you try the real Italian ice cream (I recommend Venchi) or pasta, pizza, and more delicious Italian food. If you go out at night you can see the way of life for Italians. Italians are known to enjoy life! Italy is also known for its art so you can also visit some museums, theatres and more.

If you stay longer in Milan, you can also visit Lake Como. It’s not too far by train from Central Station.
Italy is one of my favourite places. This place is full of happiness and enjoying life.
