Elephant Trekking in KOH LANTA, Thailand
Koh Lanta is an island in southern Thailand. "Koh" in Thai means "island". The population is about 30 000. A big part is Muslim.
This island is not full of tourists yet and it is why I loved it so much. The life of the population is not yet influenced by the tourism industry. And it is why you can find some beaches with no people and you can enjoy your time on your secret beach. But also sometimes it's harder to communicate in English.

One of the secret beaches I have found. |
TIP: Make sure, you will be on the beach watching as the sun goes down. There are many natural bars on the beach so you can have a drink and enjoy this beautiful show.
Also from Koh Lanta, you can visit some islands around. They say that for example Koh Rok is really beautiful for diving or relaxing on the beach. Unfortunately, I didn't have time to go there, hopefully, next time.
Transport:
There is a ferry from Krabi (Railay Beach or Ao Nang) to Koh Lanta pier. I recommend you to check the time of the departure before.
The ferry stops in Nort of the island. To go to your hotel you can take a taxi or tuk-tuk ( local transportation). Try to bargain the price. Firstly they try the highest price so do not take the first price and wait.
If you want to explore all the island you can rent a motorbike.
Prepare 10 bahts for entrance to this island (it is obligatory).

Food:
You should try some street food in this area, it is delicious. Especially pancakes and mango shake!

I booked the hotel on booking.com again. I can recommend this website/app.

I booked the hotel trip again, elephant trekking in South Lanta waterfall Safari camp that organizes this trip. They explain you everything about elephants and you can feed them with fruit. Then they help you to sit on the elephant. You are ready to explore rainforest sitting on an elephant!
Just be careful, the man that goes with you to take care of the animal took our camera and made us some photos. But then he wanted 100 bahts for it. Remember you do not need to give him anything!
It was a really good experience.. an elephant is really big so you have a nice view. I could even feed the elephant before we left the camp.
